Reinstate funding for deaf-blind services
Recently, the Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI) refused to renew the contract for the New Jersey Association of the Deaf-Blind (NJADB) and thus cut off major funding for NJADB, which will result in its closing on July 1

NJADB provides such services for adult deaf-blind as transportation, support for medical appointments, shopping including groceries, and many other basics that most people take for granted.

In addition NJADB provides recreation/socialization activities such as eating out, picnics, movies, and many other similar activities that other adults take for granted as part of every day life. Of course, each client does pay his or her own cost of admission. NJADB arranges everything and provides staff and transportation.

Funding needs to be reinstated so that NJADB can continue to provide these much needed services for the adult deaf-blind in NJ. NJADB is the only agency in New Jersey providing services that allow deaf-blind adults to function normally within society. Without these services deaf-blind adults would become shut-ins and many would be in nursing homes. Similar services are provided for able-bodied seniors, so why aren't similar services supported and funded for those who are deaf-blind?
