Salute VFW commander for job well done
As we prepare to elect a new president and commander in chief, we in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the eldest and largest combat veterans organization in the world, have been blessed to have had the most electric, dedicated and patriotic national commander in chief in recent years.

He has traveled throughout the United States and the world meeting political figures and leaders, including President [George W.] Bush (several times) and Vice President [Dick] Cheney and others

He has visited countries such as China, Russia, South Korea, Vietnam, Belgium, France, Italy and Germany.

He met with military leaders, and most of all, the armed forces of all our services. These were his favorite stops, especially visiting those serving in harm's way, as he just completed five days with our troops in Iraq.

He has testified before congressional committees for better health care and other benefits for our returning veterans, in which he prevailed.

His term comes to a close on Aug. 21, but he's not going anywhere soon: he'll continue to fight on behalf of all veterans — this you can count on.

The man I've been writing about is none other than our favorite son, George J. Lisicki of the great state of New Jersey, the county of Middlesex, and the proud borough of Carteret.

We should all be very proud of Commander Lisicki; he was the third commander from our Department of New Jersey. That's some accomplishment, since the VFW was charted in 1899.

So let us all say "Welcome home" to this Vietnam veteran and salute him for a job well done.
