Police narcotics task force makes three drug arrests BY KATHY CHANG Staff Writer
WOODBRIDGE - A four-month investigation by the township's Special Investigations and Narcotics Unit led to the confiscation of 76 individual three-ounce bags of cocaine, a pound of marijuana, several hundred tablets of Xanax and oxycodone, $10,854 in cash, and drug paraphernalia from a Blair Court residence in the Port Reading section of the township on March 29.
Police arrested Mery Cansing, 39, of Saddlebrook, at her Blair Court residence on March 28, and they obtained a search warrant to search the residence on March 29, police said.
"[Cansing] was house-sitting for the owner of the home [Jeff Salter] while he was away on vacation and distributing [the drugs] for the owner," said Capt. Robert Hubner.
Salter was arrested onApril 3 when he came back from his vacation, and was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana over 50 grams, possession of marijuana over 50 grams with the intent to distribute, and possession of drug paraphernalia including scales and additional bags, police said.
Salter posted his bail of $25,000 with no 10 percent option on April 3. Cansing was released on her own recognizance.
On April 4, the Special Investigations and Narcotics Unit also arrested Jenna Venturelli, 23, of Manahawkin, for possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of amphetamines, possession of amphetamines with the intent to distribute, the failure to inspect her vehicle, and driving with a suspended driver's license, police said. This incident was not related to the one involving Cansing and Salter.
Police stopped Venturelli's vehicle at the intersection of Barron Avenue and Freeman Street at 8 p.m. when they noticed a bad inspection sticker on her vehicle, police said.
"As [Venturelli] was reaching for her paperwork, police noticed two bags of marijuana in her pocketbook," said Hubner.
After a further search of Venturelli's pocketbook, police found 155 capsules of amphetamine and $1,000 in cash, according to the police report.
Venturelli's bail was set at $25,000 with no 10 percent option, and she was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick, police said.
