Board of Education has obligations to staff, students, taxpayers
This letter is in response to Woodbridge Township Education Association President Brian Geoffroy's letter dated March 17. In his letter, Mr. Geoffroy expresses his disappointment in the Woodbridge Township Board of Education's decision regarding a student disciplinary hearing at our March 1 meeting.

Let me first state that the Board of Education would never put our teachers or our students in an unsafe environment. As in most situations, this issue regarding the student has two sides. The board did not make their decision in haste. Absolutely not. They did in fact listen to hours of testimony from both sides in regard to this issue. Due to the fact that this is a student disciplinary issue and was conducted in closed session, I am unable to disclose any facts about this case, although I wish I could.

I will now state for the record that this board is always willing to listen to all the facts involved in cases brought to our attention. We are not a rubber stamp. Examples of this were displayed in the reversal decision after the Woodbridge High School water balloon incident and the board's approval of an alternate redistricting plan.

I am proud to serve on the Woodbridge Township Board of Education with these men and women. As board members, we don't have just an obligation to one individual or group, but have obligations to the students, the staff, and the taxpayer. We are called upon to make decisions that balance the best interest of all involved. Tough decisions are made every day, and sometimes we cannot make everyone happy, but you can be sure that these decisions are always made based on the facts.
