Police seek hit-and-run suspect
BY KATHY CHANG Staff Writer

WOODBRIDGE - Police are looking for a red minivan that struck a 29-yearold Edison man as he was walking in the roadway of Route 1 south last week, which left him with multiple injuries including broken arms and legs.

The incident occurred at 3:18 a.m. near the intersection of the Route 35 overpass on March 23, police said.

Witnesses told police that they observed a red minivan with its right front headlight out strike the victim, causing him to land on the vehicle's roof rack, police said.

"The [impact] caused the victim's pants and sneakers to come off," said Woodbridge Police Lt. Thomas Gennarelli. "The vehicle continued to travel south on Route 1 [with the victim still on the roof rack] and turned onto Route 9 south, where it was last seen."

Although the incident occurred around 3:18 a.m., it was not reported until an hour later at 4:20 a.m. when the victim was found at the intersection of Grove Street and Oak Avenue near the curb, which was approximately two miles away from where the victim was hit, police said.

"Two males coming back home from a convenience store found the victim and called police," Gennarelli said.

The victim suffered multiple injuries including two broken legs and two broken arms as well as head and internal injuries, police said.

"When police arrived, the victim was conscious, and he was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital [in New Brunswick]," said Gennarelli. "He has since had several surgeries and is in need of more."

Gennarelli said the red minivan has probable front-end damage, a right front headlight bulb that is out, and a roof rack.
