College students to offer free tax-preparation help

Students from the Democracy House service-learning program at Middlesex County College, Edison, will be available during tax season to assist members of the public in preparing their tax returns.

The assistance, by appointment only, will be offered from noon to 5 p.m. on Fridays, noon to 3 p.m. on Saturdays through April 12 at the New Brunswick Center, 140 New St., located at the intersection of New Street and Joyce Kilmer Avenue.

The tax service is aimed at students and individuals of moderate income. Tax returns are submitted online. For an appointment, call the New Brunswick Center at (732) 745-8866.

The Emanuel Community Development Corporation at (908) 938-2481 and Elijah's Promise Soup Kitchen at (732) 545-9002, both New Brunswick, also will offer free tax-preparation service. Call for hours of availability and more information.
