'Eleanor Roosevelt' to appear in Monroe
The Alisa Chapter of Hadassah, Monroe, will present ReneGoodwin of theAmerican Historical Theatre in "Eleanor Roosevelt Part II: The War Years" at 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 21 at the Jewish Congregation of Concordia, Concordia Shopping Center, Monroe.
When the Roosevelts began their second term in the White House, they faced the challenges of a falling economy, growing unrest due to racial inequality and a world of dictators, fascismand communism. Eleanor Roosevelt, a wife and mother, possessed a desire to make a difference, although limited by the constraints of being first lady.
Each recipient of theHadassahNational Henrietta Szold Award is a distinguished world leader, prominent in education,medicine, literature or politics, who has been successful in the field of human rights. Eleanor Roosevelt was the award's first honoree for her efforts on Hadassah's behalf, most notably as world patron of Youth Aliyah.
The Jan. 21 program is offered through the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council For the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
