Trojans continue hot start on the hardwood
Bishop Ahr boys are 4-0 following big win over Cardinal McCarrick
BY SHAWN LAYTON Staff Writer
Despite losing the battle on the glass as Cardinal McCarrick heavily out rebounded the Bishop Ahr High School boys basketball team, the Trojans won the war and improved to 4-0 on the season with a 72-68 win overMcCarrick.

Although nearly doubling the Trojans in rebounding in the contest, McCarrick had little answer for the scoring tandem of Mike Williamson and Kevin Uszenski. Williamson led Bishop Ahr with 23 and Uszenski poured in 22 for the red hot Trojans.

"Mike played very hard," Bishop Ahr head coach Dennis O'Keef said. "He's also developed into a solid defender. Right now he's one of our better defenders and he plays with a lot of heart."

Williamson knocked down three threepointers in the win over McCarrick and his outside shooting was on par with Uszenski's perimeter play.

"Kevin is a very good outside shooter, and he's getting tougher on the floor as well," O'Keef said. "He likes to take charge and also plays with a lot of heart."

Bishop Ahr's Derek Figueredo also finished in double figures, posting 10 against McCarrick. Mike Burwell and Julio Rosario finished with 22 and 20 points, respectively, in the loss forMcCarrick. With the score tied in the fourth quarter, BishopAhr drew Burwell's fifth foul to send himto the bench and sealed the victory with clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch.

"So far it has been an all-around effort," O'Keef said. "Everyone has been unselfish. Martese Street andBillyRooney have played well, and Jordan Madsen and Matt Sheehy have given us solidminutes off the bench."

After opening the season with a win over Highland Park, the Trojans picked up an impressive win over division rival Metuchen. Led by 19 points apiece

from Williamson and Uszenski,

Bishop Ahr cruised to a 77-43

victory over the Bulldogs. DejuanMiller

ledMetuchen with

18 points in the losing cause.

"We played really well in

our first couple of games,"

O'Keef said. "We do have more quickness on the floor this year, but it comes down to a commitment to excel by the kids themselves."

In thewin overMetuchen, Street chipped in eight andMadsen finishedwith 12 points.

"We don't have a real, true star this year," O'Keef said. "That's fine. because we have much better balance as a result."

Bishop Ahr picked up its third straight victory in a 58-39 win over West Windsor- Plainsboro South. Williamson led the team with 15 points with Rooney and Figueredo chipping in 10 and nine points, respectively.

The Trojans played last night in the Roselle Catholic Holiday Tournament and defeated the host school 68-51.
