Police arrest two for assault

WOODBRIDGE - Two former Colonia High School students have been arrested and charged with the assault of two 16- year-old John F. Kennedy Memorial High School male students at the Woodbridge Community Center on Dec. 12, and police said they anticipate more arrests will be made.

Police arrested and charged Daniel Froojian, 19, Avenel, with aggravated assault and rioting on Dec. 13, and Rich James, 18,Avenel, with simple assault and rioting later that same day, police said.

The incident occurred at 10:30 p.m. as the two students, who are on the JFK ice hockey team and were wearing their team jackets at the time, were leaving an ice hockey game between Woodbridge High School and ColoniaHigh School, police said.

Froojian and James, along with approximately 15 juveniles and teenagers, attacked the two JFK students about 100 feet fromthe entrance of the community center, police said.

"One of the juveniles suffered minor injuries and was treated on the scene, and the other juvenile was beat and kicked about the head and upper body and suffered a concussion," said police Lt. Thomas Gennarelli.

The juvenile, who suffered a concussion, was transported by ambulance to the Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, where he was treated and released, police said.A

Municipal Court judge set Froojian's bail at $35,000 with no 10 percent option, and a Superior Court judge raised the former Colonia High School student's bail to $100,000 with no 10 percent option. Froojian remains at theMiddlesex CountyAdult Correction Center [MCACC] in North Brunswick, police said.

James was transported to the MCACC and has since been released, police said.

Gennarelli said police are still investigating the incident.
