Sports Shorts

Do you know someone who played for the Woodbridge Football program on their State Championship Team of 1997? If so, please contact Joseph Ward, WHS AD at 732-602- 8602. WHS is going to honor those players on October 5, when we host the Edison Eagles at 7 pm. Please spread the word so as many former players as possible can join the celebration.

GBC Junior Pee Wees 27, Plainfield Vikings 12. BC's Brian Jackson's 14-yard touchdown run, followed up by Eden Cohen's extra point, started the scoring in the first quarter. Plainfield scored next in the 2nd quarter. GBC came right back with Ryan Smolin's 19 yard touchdown run followed up by Brian Jackson's extra point to make the score 14-6. On the ensuing kickoff, Jorge Delgado recovered a fumble starting a drive that led to Brian Jackson's second touchdown run. In the third quarter, GBC struck again with a long drive that ended with James Caffrey's 1 yd. touchdown plunge followed up by Ryan Smolin's pass to Justin Danatos for the point after. GBC 27-Vikings 6. Excellent blocking from GBC's offensive line of Derek Schneider, Tyler Andricsak, Matthew Ricio, Mike Fedyanin and Jorge Delgado. The undefeated GBC JPW's will host the Hightstown Rams at Spotswood High School Sept. 23rd.

GBC Pee Wees 6, Plainfield Vikings 0, GBC Pee Wees beat the Plainfield Vikings in what was a very tough defensive game. Highlights included a touchdown run by running back Amir Bell, who also intercepted a Viking pass later in the game. Excellent punts by Garry Baumer, which helped to keep the Vikings at bay. The GBC defense, led by middle linebacker, Anthony Berliner stepped up to close down the "Purple People Eaters." Outstanding performances by all, including Matthew Bettin, Anthony Fischer, Patrick Mc- Mullen, Matthew Rosofsky, Michael Allen, Greg Banks, Austin Baran, Javon Ganzaroli, Matthew Martino, Jayson Parker, Zachary Schrier, BJ Schumacher-Wallace, Andrew Scrivanich, Ryan Silverman, Juan Simmons-Ganzaroli, and Carl Taylor.
