The Metuchen 9-year-old tournament team avenged its earlier loss to Milltown by defeating the home team 8-3 in the finals of the Milltown tournament. Starter Nick Johnson pitched four strong innings, and closer Ken Harry completed the final two to secure the championship win. Brilliant defensive plays were made by third baseman Sean Rivera, shortstop Conor McCadden and center fielder Nathaniel Walters at key points in the game. Team members Joe Bruno, Jack Malague, Patrick Reid, Mike Plunkett, Vinnie Tummarello, Kyle Scheller, Cameron Kessler, Johnson, Harry, Rivera, McCadden and Walters all contributed clutch hits, strong pitching and excellent defense throughout the tournament, where Metuchen finished 4-1, including the championship-game win. The team now heads to the Fords/Clara Barton and Edison boys' tournaments in search of continued success.
