Thanks for righting sales tax wrong

In July 2006, the N.J. Legislature and governor enacted changes to the New Jersey sales tax that unintentionally caused the Woodbridge Community Center/YMCA to be forced to begin charging sales tax on a number of its membership categories. In June 2007, the Legislature and governor approved a change to the legislation that clarified and affirmed the exclusion of the Woodbridge Community Center from the collection of sales tax on memberships effective July 1, 2007. This was due to the very strong advocacy efforts of Sens. [Joseph] Vitale and [Barbara] Buono as well as Assembly members [Patrick] Diegnan, [Peter] Barnes, [John] Wisniewski and [Joseph] Vas, who were collectively determined to right this wrong. They were assisted by the governor, who early on recognized that this unintended consequence that was negatively impacting thousands of Woodbridge-area residents needed to be corrected as soon as possible. We are very grateful for their hard work on behalf of so many.
