Father thanks rescuers of son in accident

On Friday night, March 11, 2007, my worst nightmare became a reality. Since my children became of age to drive, I often worried about being dispatched to a motor vehicle accident, and when arriving on scene, the car was one of my sons.

This night I was not at work but home in bed listening to the police scanner. The MVA came over the radian and as the incident progressed the police officers requests were telling me he was preparing for a fatal accident. A call on the cell phone confirmed that my nightmare was now a reality.

After all said, my son Bobby and his friend Joe must have had God riding in the back seat. They were lucky to survive a horrific crash. They were held overnight at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for observation and tests and were released that Sunday.

I personally need to thank the Woodbridge Police Department, the Port Reading Fire Department and First Aid Squad, the Carteret, Avenel and Woodbridge fire departments and the Woodbridge Township Ambulance and Rescue Squad, along with the paramedics from Raritan Bay Medical Center. Thank you, for your prompt response the care that was given to Bobby and Joe.

Lt. Robert Hilliard

Woodbridge Fire Dept.
