Woman wins prize from Regis and Kelly Woodbridge mother of two wins eight-day trip to Antigua BY KATHY CHANG Staff Writer
WOODBRIDGE - Many years of watching "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" and now "Live with Regis and Kelly" have paid off for one township woman.
Ermalinda Mortensen was the show's big winner on Jan. 24 with the show's new daily travel giveaway, "Live's Blizzard Blast Trivia A-Sno-Go."
"Live with Regis and Kelly" producers have built on the popular "Travel Trivia" segment by adding an exciting new twist - in addition to playing for a top-notch travel experience, each player has the chance to win an additional "Sno-Go" prize.
"I thought it was a joke," said Mortensen. "I got the call at 8 a.m. and asked myself who was calling so early. I just entered the contest two weeks ago online."
Mortensen answered the question correctly relating to the Wednesday show - "What did we say was Jennifer Garner's character name on the television series, "Alias?" - which was Sydney Bristow.
"My son had to help me with the answer because I haven't had time to watch TV," she said. "So, if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have won. I'm giving him the bedroom set since he's getting married soon."
Mortensen won an eight-day, seven-night trip to the St. James' Club in Antigua. The prize package is all-inclusive and is valued at over $5,400. Since the wheel landed on "Sno-Go," she also won a $3,000 Ashley bedroom furniture set.
"I'm home on disability and the doctors told me to go on the computer to just work on my fingers for therapy," she said. "I have always entered contests here and there and I figured I would just go online and enter this one since I didn't already."
Mortensen started watching the 9 a.m. "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" show when it first aired in 1983.
"I was on maternity leave with my first son Dennis Jr. [who helped his mother answer the contest question correctly]," she said. "A few years later when he was 2 or 3 years old, I got tickets to the show."
As luck would have it, Mortensen's seat No. 7 was picked by the caller who participated in that day's contest when she was sitting in the studio audience.
"I won a dinner for four then," she said. "For this contest, I picked the No. 14 for the day my son is getting married since he helped me."
Mortensen said she has decided that she will take the all-inclusive trip with her husband in November.
"This year was too busy to think of saving up for a trip," she said. "My son is getting married on July 14 and my other son will graduate from high school this year. We decided we would wait until my son gets married and my other son goes off to college to go on the trip. November is the perfect time."
