MetroPark renovations should address safety

Regarding the news that Metropark Station will be getting a $30 million renovation ("MetroPark to get a $30 million makeover, Jan. 4), I hope that NJ Transit will take this opportunity to address the problem of the extremely wide gap between the platform and arriving trains.

It is a ridiculous safety hazard that has been a problem for as long as I can remember, with the gap sometimes being more than 1 foot wide. Last year, someone died when she fell through the gap between the platform and a train on Long Island. That has prompted New York authorities to finally start addressing the issue. Does someone have to needlessly die in New Jersey before NJ Transit takes action to ensure that Metropark (and all the other stations with wide gaps) are safe for passengers?
