Metuchen man arrested for sexual assault BY KATHY CHANG Staff Writer
PISCATAWAY – A longtime woodshop teacher at Conackamack Middle School in Piscataway was arrested and charged last week with aggravated sexual assault on a female — who wasn’t a student of his — over a four-year period beginning when the female was 10 years old. The female is now 16 years old.
Marzet Farris, 64, of Howell Street in Metuchen, was arrested by Piscataway Police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office on Dec. 11 and charged with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child, authorities from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
The victim reported the matter to the Piscataway Police Department on Dec. 10, authorities said.
“She reported that she was sexually assaulted by Farris over a four-year period starting when she was 10 years old,” said Investigator Adrian Villegas.
Farris has been employed by the Piscataway Township School District since September 1964 and has taught at Conackamack Middle School his entire tenure. The victim was never a student at the middle school, and Farris’ position as a teacher was not used to facilitate the incidents, authorities said.
The police investigation involved statements by the defendant and additional information collected during the investigation, police said.
Farris is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick. Bail has not yet been set on Farris’ charges.
