Suspect nabs $20K in cigarettes

WOODBRIDGE - A man made a hole through the concrete wall in the rear of a Quick Chek store in Avenel and stole $20,000 of cigarettes and cash from the store last week.

The burglary occurred between 9:30 p.m. Nov. 23 and 4 a.m. Nov. 24, police said.

The assistant manager told police that when she arrived for work at approximately 4 a.m., she noticed that cigarettes were missing and all three cash drawers had been broken into.

A white male wearing a light green ski cap, blue hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, and black pants was seen walking through the rear portion of the storage area, the police report said.

The man got into the store through a hole he made through the concrete wall in the rear of the store, the police report said.

Three hundred cartons of cigarettes had been stolen and approximately $220 in cash was taken, the police report said.
