Budget cuts mean less investment in future

Hey, Edison Township Council, how can a town the size of Edison carry on with all the budget slashing you are demanding? You look real good when you can say you are holding down taxes, but the Edison citizens are being duped. You are not telling us what we will be giving up by these cuts. You're not telling people they will have to pay more later for your chicanery of today.

If there were another disaster here, whether it would be a water main break or something even more devastating, there would be no money in the till. What's wrong with planning for the future - and I want a healthy future for my town.

It seems to me that it's just a personal attack on the mayor. It even gets down to you asking to cut some of the mayor's office staff - that of an administrative assistant and a receptionist. Why didn't this brainstorm come up during the previous administration? Oh yes, let's not forget that during the previous administration the mayor also had a private driver. My, my.

Let's talk about all the silly street fountains (now all pretty much busted up), and the building of a bricked-in park with benches at the corner of Route 27 and Stoney Road that no one ever uses. These were all erected during the last administration. Now, this same council is refusing to invest in the future. What are you thinking?

Mary J. Elder
