Obituaries James L. Lyons Jr. Mr. Lyons, 57, of Old Bridge, died Oct. 18 at home. Born in South Amboy, he resided in Metuchen before moving to Old Bridge 25 years ago. Before his retirement, Mr. Lyons was a self-employed mechanic. He is survived by a son, James of Parlin; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Michael Diem of Parlin; a brother, John of Old Bridge; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Barbara "Bobbie" Kawecki and Sharon Burns, both of Old Bridge, and Kathy and Michael Wasko of Metuchen; and two grandchildren. The Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Haven Hospice, c/o JFK Medical Center, 80 James St., Edison 08818-9972.
Helen Maria Davis Mrs. Davis, 58, of Freehold Township, died Sept. 25 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born and raised in Perth Amboy. Mrs. Davis was a team leader and insurance adjuster for Proformance Insurance, Freehold. She previously worked for the Hanover Insurance Co., Sayreville, for 17 years, and also worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. She also was the owner of Inches Off Salon for several years. Mrs. Davis was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Richard Davis; her parents, Maddalena and Victor Kurtas; and a nephew. She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Janice Davis, at home; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Gary Shamy of Woodbridge; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Paula Kurtas of Hillsborough; a sister-in-law and her husband, Janice and Frank S. Gaudio of Atlantic Highlands; a brother-in-law and his wife, Joseph W. Jr. and Barbara C. Davis of Silver Springs, Md.; many nieces and nephews; and her companion, Thomas J. DeVito Sr. of Freehold Township. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements. Edward P. Daly Mr. Daly, 82, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, died Oct. 18 at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in Newark, he resided there before moving to Cliffwood Beach in 1951. Mr. Daly was a physical science technician and was awarded several patents while employed at Fort Monmouth for 32 years, retiring in 1979. Following retirement, he drove a school bus for Wooley's Buys Co. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Mr. Daly was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Daly and Frederick Daly. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Walbroel Daly; three daughters, Mary Bader of Rumson, Joan West of West Long Branch, and Patricia Daly of Matawan; two sons, Edward R. Daly of the Avenel section of Woodbridge, and Richard J. Daly of Howell; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Church, followed by entombment at Holmdel Mausoleum. Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
Betty Jane Lauritsen Miller Mrs. Miller, 76, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Oct. 16, 2006, at home. Born in South Amboy, she resided in Parlin the past 44 years. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, South Amboy. She was a member of the Sayreville Senior Citizens Tuesday Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Miller in 1998. She is survived by a son, Christian R. Miller of South Brunswick; a daughter, Susan E. Miller of Metuchen; a brother, Norman Lauritsen of Rahway; three sisters, Madeline DeLuccia and Elsie Samuelsen, both of South Amboy, and Emily Grande of Bayville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A requiem Eucharist was held at Christ Church, followed by interment at the church's cemetery. Arrangements were by The Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy.
