Woman assaulted in purse snatching
BY KATHY CHANG
Staff Writer

WOODBRIDGE - Police are investigating the assault and robbery of a woman on Oak Tree Road in Iselin recently.

The robbery occurred at 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 13, police said.

The 59-year-old woman had just left the Subzi Mandi Cash and Carry on Oak Tree Road and was walking back to her car when a white male between 18 and 25 years of age came up from behind her and grabbed her purse from her right shoulder. The suspect knocked the woman to the ground and dragged her about 10 feet, the police report said.

The purse strap broke and the woman jumped on her purse, but the suspect pulled the purse out from under her, police said.

The woman told police she saw the suspect flee on foot down Adams Street and onto Bradford Place before she lost sight of him, police said.

The man was described as approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build. He wore a baseball cap, black sweat shirt with a white T-shirt sticking out from the bottom; khaki shorts and white sneakers.

The brown leather medium-size purse contained the woman's paycheck, $22 in cash, a bank passbook, three credit cards, a driver's license, a brown bifold leather wallet, one set of keys, and a maroon- and gray-striped leather coin purse, police said.
