Board of Ed. seats and 15-cent hike in school tax on tap

WOODBRIDGE - Voters will go to the polls on April 18 to choose three of the eight candidates running for the three, three-year terms on the Board of Education.

They will also vote on the $136,947,485 tax levy, up $5,470,166 from last year.

The total proposed school budget for 2006-07 is $168,203,886, up $9,387,417 from last year.

If the tax levy is approved, the school tax rate will rise 15 cents, from $4.10 to $4.25 for each $100 of assessed valuation.

Residents with a home assessed at the township average of $75,000 would pay an additional $112.50 in school taxes.

The school board candidates include: (incumbents noted with an asterisk).

Marion M. Davies of Colonia

Deborah Fugaro of Colonia

James R. Griffin of Fords

Patricia Hardiman* of Iselin

Kathy Joyce of Colonia

Judy Leidner* of Iselin

Lawrence G. Miloscia* of Port Reading

Robyn C. Teri of Colonia

One one-year term seat is also available. The two candidates for this seat are Brian F. Small, of Port Reading, and Victoria I. Romanienko, of Woodbridge.

Voters who cannot get to the polls may vote via absentee ballot. Voter registration and absentee ballot applications are available at all township schools, at the school district administration's office on School Street, as well as at town hall. They are also available online at www.state.nj.us/lps/elections. The polls will be open from 2-9 p.m.

Voters must have already registered by March 28 to vote in the election.
