Nun’s municipal court date slated for Jan. 10

BY COLLEEN LUTOLF

Staff Writer

WOODBRIDGE — The court hearing for the nun who allegedly threatened a student at St. Cecelia’s School was postponed recently.

Sister Catherine Iacouzze’s hearing on a harassment charge, which was slated for Dec. 28, has been moved to 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 10 in Woodbridge municipal court, said court director Gloria Sweeney.

"The reason was that we had an acting judge on the earlier date," Sweeney said. "Presiding Judge [Emery J.] Toth said he wants to hear that case."

Iacouzze was dismissed from her job at St. Cecelia’s School Dec. 7, after nine years of working as an algebra teacher, disciplinarian, guidance counselor and assistant principal, after she allegedly threatened an 11-year-old boy for misbehaving.

Iacouzze told the boy he would "have no teeth left in his mouth if he had an attitude with her again," according to the complaint filed by the boy’s father on Nov. 11, the day of the incident.

Joanne Ward, Diocese of Metuchen spokesperson, said the diocese was made aware of the incident during the first week of December through a correspondence.

Iacouzze was first suspended, Ward said, and then fired after the diocese conducted an internal investigation.
