Fire damages Hudson St. home

WOODBRIDGE — A Hudson Street house sustained extensive damage in a fire last week, police said.

Fire personnel from Avenel, Colonia and Rahway responded to the small ranch-style residence shortly after 10 a.m. Dec. 28.

While on scene, the owner of the home and a plumber who was doing work there told police that while he was replacing a shower valve, the insulation caught fire and quickly spread, climbing up the wall and into the attic, police said.

Some surrounding homes may have sustained minor smoke damage, reports said.

No injuries were reported.

The homeowner is staying with relatives in Helmetta while the extent of the damage is determined, police said.
