Sternesky named as new Avenel Fire Co. 1 chief

Jerry Sternesky has been elected fire chief of Avenel Fire Co. 1. An Avenel resident, Sternesky served as lieutenant, captain and assistant chief before being elected chief of the 38-member department for 2005. He will serve a one-year term. Sternesky will be sworn on Jan. 8 at the company’s annual installation of officers and dinner dance at The Forge Inn, Woodbridge. The dinner dance will also pay tribute to outgoing fire chiefs Frank Strain and Peter Ricciardelli, who will continue to serve as president. Mayor Frank G. Pelzman will attend.

AARP sponsors monthly

trips to Atlantic City

The AARP Chapter No. 3459/Colonia, Woodbridge, sponsors trips to Caesars Casino in Atlantic City on the second Monday of the month. The bus leaves the parking lot of St. John Vianney Elementary School, Inman Avenue, at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $16. For reservations, call Fran at (732) 388-0359.

Senior citizen club announces meetings

The Woodbridge Senior Citizen Club will hold meetings at 1 p.m. every Thursday in McCorristin Hall at St. James Church, 145 Grove St., Woodbridge. Membership is open to those more than 60 years of age who do not belong to any other township-sponsored club. Canceled meetings are announced on WCTC 1450 AM. New members are welcome.
