Police nab suspect in auto theft, bar incident

WOODBRIDGE — Police arrested and charged Felix Rodiguez, 39, Avenel, with possession of stolen property, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon and contempt of court at 4:51 a.m. May 8.

While on patrol, officers noticed a red van parked on Chestnut Street that matched the description of one reported stolen earlier.

When an officer approached the van and opened the driver-side door, Rodiguez allegedly grabbed his arm and attempted to punch him in the face, according to the police report on the incident.

The officers subdued Rodiguez and placed him under arrest.

A Ramset power fastener gun was found in the van and was believed to have been used in an incident earlier that evening at the City Tavern bar in Avenel, according to police.

In that incident, an unruly customer fitting Rodiguez’ description was harassing other patrons and had to be escorted out of the bar.

The suspect returned to the bar a short time later, and allegedly banged on a rear window with what appeared to be a handgun.
