Mayor Choi deserves chance to make much needed changes
Richard Nixon ran a campaign of inference. If he could at least infer wrongdoing on the part of his opponent, then the end would justify the means. In Edison, there has been a barrage of inference. We might just as well publish a headlined tabloid in town. Most people stay home from council meetings because they [the meetings] are so mean-spirited. At one meeting, we actually had someone from the podium ask one of our accountants if she was related to Mayor [Jun] Choi. The only reason for the question was that the accountant was of Asian descent; it never would have been asked had the accountant been Caucasian. Implication does not mean guilt. But implication makes some people think that maybe something could be wrong. If this were not the case, the tabloids would not be making the kind of money they do.
This town has been doing the same things over and over and getting the same results. There are factions in this town that are comfortable with the way things were run and are afraid of any changes. It also seems to me that there are a few people in the background who are making all the snowballs but letting others throw them.
This town is in dire need of change. Anyone coming into Edison and looking at the Mack truck site or the corners of Route 27 and Plainfield Avenue would want change. Anyone who lives on streets without proper sewers and sidewalks wants change.
We have been told that there is plenty of money in the budget. What would happen to the money that we have in the budget if we encounter major expenses this year? What would happen if the people without proper sewers and sidewalks demanded that they be taken care of? Would Edison have the reserves to handle these problems? This town has an infrastructure problem, but there are those on the council who would rather talk about the price of paint.
We need to give Mayor Choi a chance to run a transparent and truthful government in Edison.
