Holiday tree should return to Borough Hall

I have been a proud citizen of Metuchen for 52 years and I truly love this town. I want to thank the Chamber of Commerce for the many hours you devote to making Metuchen the very special community that it is.

I am writing to request that the Board consider moving our "holiday tree" back to the grounds of our beautiful new borough hall. In its present location at the Metuchen Savings Bank drive-through, it is practically hidden. In fact, most fellow citizens I've spoken to are supportive of having the tree on borough hall property and many are not even aware that there is a tree in the bank drive-through. Why must we hide such a treasured and traditional holiday symbol in a drive-through?

Last year I made an informal survey of surrounding communities and found that practically every one has their holiday tree placed on the grounds of their town hall. These communities include Edison, Clark, Woodbridge, Perth Amboy and Scotch Plains. There is even a holiday tree on the grounds of the White House!

I realize that plans for this upcoming holiday season are already in place. I ask that the Chamber of Commerce seriously consider this request for the 2007 season. I would be happy to attend any future meetings where this subject may be addressed in more detail.

Thank you again for all your work on behalf of the citizens of Metuchen, and I wish you all the best for a wonderful 2006 holiday season.

Gloria Guida
