Two men robbed near Iselin pizzeria BY KATHY CHANG Staff Writer
WOODBRIDGE - Police are looking for two males who robbed and assaulted two men near the New Famous Pizzeria on Oak Tree Road in Iselin last week.
The robbery and assault occurred at 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 27, police said.
A witness told police that he was hanging a sign in the pizzeria window when he heard yelling near the pay phone in the parking lot.
The witness then observed one of the victims chasing two suspects toward the rear of the strip mall. The victims told the witness that the suspects had assaulted and robbed them, the police report said.
The witness said he had observed the two suspects walking around the parking lot and strip mall earlier that evening.
Suspect one was described as a dark-skinned, heavy-set, Hispanic male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, in his 20s, with short, dark curly hair, wearing a black puffy coat and black cap, the police report said.
Suspect two was described as a shorter, thin, white male, wearing a black hooded jacket in his late teens, the police report said.
Victim one told police that he was standing near the pay phone with victim two after they had both finished working.
Victim two was making a phone call when they were suddenly approached by two suspects, the police report said.
Victim one told police that suspect two muttered something to him and then punched him in the face with a closed fist.
The suspect then took the victim's green and black jacket, which had $300 in cash inside the pocket, the police report said.
Victim two told police that suspect one simultaneously punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground.
He was punched several times, but the suspect did not take anything from him, the police report said.
The victims told police that they walked to the Exxon station after chasing the suspects because they believed the suspects were going to attempt to buy cigarettes with the stolen cash.
Both victims suffered minor bruises to the face and refused medical treatment, the police report said.
