Twp. police seeking armed robbery suspect

EDISON - Police are investigating a recent armed robbery at the Inman-Grove Shopping Center.

"An armed robbery occurred at 11 a.m. on Dec. 1 at the Dollar Depot, located in the Inman-Grove Shopping Center," said Lt. Joseph Shannon. "At that time, a black male suspect, 5'9" to 5'10", wearing a gray ski mask, blue sweatshirt, gray pants, and white sneakers, entered the store holding a dark revolver in his hand."

The suspect walked up to the counter and confronted the 30-year-old owner, an Edison resident, police said.

"The suspect said to the owner, 'Give me money or I'll shoot you,' " Shannon said. "The owner complied with the request and gave the suspect money from the cash register. The suspect then fled the scene on the foot."

The owner, Muhammed Khan, said that this was the third time that his store had been robbed.

"The first time was about a year-and-a-half ago, and the second time was a couple of months before," Khan said. "But both those times there was no gun."

Khan said he did not know if the same robber was responsible for all three incidents or if any suspects had been apprehended in the previous two robberies.

"I am mentally preparing for the possibility that someone may walk in with a gun now," he said.

Khan was not injured in the incident, but the suspect made off with approximately $500 in cash, police said.

The incident is under investigation by Detective John Canavera. Anyone with information should call (732) 248-7400.
